Characters Who Hate Each Other

In Thoughts on Writing on June 3, 2012 at 12:36 am

A man and his ex-wife’s father at a funeral where neither is drunk.

The guy at the gym who wears an elastic band around his bicep and the guy who just sits on machines, breathing hard.

Two people wearing the same shirt.

The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.

The blondes who have to change the lightbulb.

The one who was adopted and the other ones.

The Ugly Duckling and the world.

The muse and the writer.

Characters who look away and characters who stare.

The person you wrote to be you, and the person you wrote to be the person who told you that you shouldn’t be a writer.
